A Checklist When Adding To Existing Records in Family Search/Family Tree

James Tanner created a checklist to hopefully alleviate a lot of the unwarranted attachments of incorrect records that are plaguing other users of Family Search right now.

There are four steps on the Checklist:

#One...Starting with yourself...Know your own portion of the Tree.

#Two...Review your tree to see what records you might need to support what you have entered or to see if you need to     add more information.

#Three...Do your own research.  Make sure what you are adding is sensible.  It must be the correct time, place, etc. for the events added.  Does it mesh with the rest of the family's information?

# Four...When you are satisfied that you have spent the time and energy to be sure you are adding or changing something already on the tree to something you can document with       a record, proceed with confidence and be sure to add a         reason why you have made the addition or the change.

I sure do appreciate the incredible work James Tanner does on a daily basis.  This morning I listened to a YouTube, BYU Library video he did on Hints For Sources for all four of the big databases.  It was very good as well and just recorded in the last week or so, so was very up to date.

I love these presentations as you can learn a lot by listening and then going back over any part of the video that escapes you the first time.  Using more than one of your senses seems to help the information stick for me.  I hope it does for you as well!
