My Heritage-Training Video

pinterest

My Heritage is an amazing website.  More than 83 million people are registered throughout the world.  They are now in every single country in the world.  They have 2.6 Billion people on their trees. 6.8 Billion documents supporting the entries.  They have over 200 million photos and 42 languages available.  These stats alone merit our consideration.  They are adding roughly 100,000 users per month.  Their numbers are staggering for a company that has only been around for a little over a decade.  They partnered with Family Search in 2013.  The growth has been phenomenal.

The Webinar is 1 hour in length.  It is a small price to pay for what could save you countless hours of searching in the future.  Knowledge is power.  The more we learn the more we realize how much more there is to learn.

Rootstech~Don't Forget About It!

Pinterest photo

Rootstech is past now for 2016 but its relevance remains high.  Here are the links I briefly talked about last week and the first one is from one of the Keynote Addresses.  Bruce Feiler is a noted NY Times Best Seller author and motivational speaker fro us as family historians.  He wrote the book, "Secrets of Happy Families" a few years ago. His talk was amazing.  For a real treat set aside 30 minutes to enjoy it.  No place is the energy of Rootstech felt more profoundly as in the General Sessions with several thousand people in attendance.

Rootstech 2016

Roots Tech is the largest Family History conference in the world.  This year there were 25,000 registered attendees and people from every state and 40 countries.  Everything is done on the grand scale and the Salt Palace is an incredibly huge and user friendly facility.  It takes up two immense blocks in downtown Salt Lake City and from end to end is one half mile.  The room where the General Sessions are held each morning holds 23,000 people.  And yet the crowd is manageable because you are so spread out in the Salt Palace.  It is the biggest building I have ever been in but then...I don't get out that much and mingle with huge crowds.    Check out the video it is a virtual flight through the building just to give you the idea.  https://youtu.be/eycXsFxQ8lM

As James Tanner this is no place for a fashion show.  Comfort and good shoes are important.  I did see one woman in stilettos. I only saw her once.

The Man at Family Search
Ron Tanner

Ron Tanner is the mastermind behind The FS/FT.  Each year he does a presentation about what is new in Family Tree this year.  What they have just done and what they plan on releasing this coming year.  This presentation should be mandatory for anyone working with people learning Family Tree.

Arizona's Loss is Utah's Gain

A few months ago, James Tanner, moved from Arizona to Utah.   He was definitely one of the driving forces behind making the Mesa Arizona Family Search Library one of the best.  He taught so many classes in that Library and around the country.

This week I ran into his YouTube videos that are being produced by the BYU Family History Library.  He is teaching 12-15 classes per week on all kinds of things.  The most recently he has done some classes on Ancestry and My Heritage and is now doing Family Search Family Tree.  If you want to hear someone explain every aspect of what is happening in Genealogy today...up to the minute...he's your man.

You can subscribe to the BYU Family History Library channel.  Just go to Youtube and open the videos.  You can subscribe to the channel there.. You'll find a place to do it right under the video title on any video.  Then you'll be notified when new videos from the Library are added in the future.  You can see all the archived one too.

He has two blogs:  http://geneaologysstar.blogspot.com  More General Genealogy

http://rejoiceandbeexceedingglad.blogspot.com/   Church Related and often coincides with his classes at BYU.

Family History Work All Done?

PInterest photo

"Are you interested in taking family names to the Temple but don’t know where to start? Learn how to use the Family Tree to identify distant cousins who might be missing family members or need Temple work. This video will review the process of 1) choosing an ancestor, 2) selecting one of their descendants who might be missing family members, 3) finding a record identifying those missing family members, 4) attaching the record and adding new people, and 5) reserving ordinances.
Review a longer pre-recorded webinar discussing this topic on the Consultant Webinar Series page. Search for “New Tools for Finding Your Missing Cousins.”'

These help center videos are fantastic.  I am going to include them here on occasion to let you know where and why the help center is incredibly amazing. Let's avail ourselves of the wonderful work being done daily to make our genealogy a lot easier.
