Moving Data From Family Search/Tree To An Ancestry Tree

Oakland Temple Hill

As more and more people have discovered the advantages of having more trees online, questions have arisen about how to populate those trees without having to reenter everything one person at a time.   It is importnat that we learn about the various companies that have online trees and why that tree could be beneficial.  As an example if they have UK ancestry it might be to their advantage to have a tree on findmypast.com.

So examining the reason why having multiple trees is a  good idea?  What do you think?  Some of the ideas I have come up with are that there are more and different people to collaborate with .  They may know something we don't and be willing to share and vice versa.  Each company has different and varied content and searchability.  That to me is key.  The record retrieval technology will bring you records you won't have otherwise.  You will spend less time searching for records and more time analyzing what you find.  In the long run that gets the job done more efficiently.

Fro various reason a lot of people want to have both an Ancestry and a Family Search account.  One of the reason for Latter-day Saints is that your can reserve temple ordinances from ancestry.com with an LDS account.  Some people have a lot on Ancestry already and want to also have a tree on Family Search.  Our goal is to be knowledgable about all the companies and teach others about what their options would be according to their individual needs and circumstances.

In the following lesson we have instructions on creating an Ancestry Tree from a Family Search/Family Tree.
