Collaboration Benefits
One of the things I love about cyber genealogy is the collaboration with others. Several months ago I started doing a little dabbling with Ancestry Trees. I started one and made it public that has about 110 people entered now. Every time I add a name, I get the green shaky leaf hints and that gathers a bunch of documents so I don't have to search for them. The Ancestry Trees are great if you make it your own personal policy to only attach documented information and never rely on unsourced information as being true, just a clue.
I ran across a man that had lots of fun photos and documented information and we share a common surname: Godfrey. I contacted him and we discovered we are second cousins. Over the Thanksgiving break he and I have exchanged lots of information and he sent me this photo of my great Uncle James on his wedding day. Uncle James is my grandmother's brother. I had even visited this couple in their home a few times as a young girl. It has been a wonderful way to connect with a living relative and compare notes. Finding common descendants from one of your ancestors can be quite wonderful. Here is a photo he sent me.
This picture made me want to start a photo wall of family wedding pictures. I think I will.
